       Full-Time Staff Positions

Pittsburgh City Paper, News Editor:  (Jan. 2005 to present): Promoted to News Editor from staff Writer in Feb. 2007. Direct news coverage for 80,000-circulation weekly in the city of Pittsburgh and the surrounding region. Also write weekly news features, in-depth enterprise stories and handle weekly copy editing duties.

The Review, East Liverpool, Ohio, Managing Editor (September 2001 to July 2003): Returned to my hometown newspaper as editor after working for as an investigative reporter. I directed the daily news and sports coverage for the newspaper, which won 12 Ohio Associated Press awards in 2003, including an individual honor for breaking news coverage. I also wrote columns and editorials and was responsible for both editing and page design.

In Pittsburgh News Weekly, Staff Writer, (June 2000 to September 2001): Worked as a full-time investigative/issues reporter for Pittsburgh's former news and entertainment weekly. Duties included writing weekly news items and features as well as magazine-length cover features (3,000 to 5,000 words). Main areas of coverage included politics and crime. I worked on various features involving alleged police corruption and the indefinite incarceration of legal immigrants by the Immigration and Naturalization Service. My INS investigation resulted in freedom for an innocent man.

The Daily Advertiser, Lafayette, La., Court Reporter, (May 1999 to June 2000): Served as court reporter for 50,000-circulation in south Louisiana. Covered daily court beat, including several high-profile trials. I was also responsible for long-term enterprise and feature stories, including a look at the state's legalized cock-fighting industry. Co-authored state investigative story of the year, as recognized by the Louisiana Press Association, for uncovering a pattern of abuse by a local sheriff against INS prisoners.

The Commercial-News, Danville, Ill., City Editor, (September 1997 to May 1999): Supervised 11 staff members and directed news coverage at 22,000-circulation daily in east-central Illinois. Highlights included the coverage of the bombing of two local churches and the eventual violent death of the suspected bomber. Also worked for first six months as a Sports writer/copy editor.

The News-Herald, Marshfield, WI., Regional Editor, February 1997 to September 1997): Directed the coverage of three county governments and two-dozen small municipalities and school districts.

The Review, East Liverpool, Ohio, staff writer, (September 1993 to February 1997): Worked as sports writer before being promoted to staff writer in April 1994.

Bloomberg News Service: Served as the service's Pittsburgh Courts Correspondent from February 2008 to March 2009.

Corporate Board Member Magazine: I have completed nearly a dozen assignments for the quarterly Publication. Stories have ranged from extensive Q&A articles to features on corporate law, board director policy and Sarbanes-Oxley legislation.

Salt Lake City Weekly: I have served as the paper's video game reviewer since summer 2004. I was able to turn a hobby into a recurring writing assignment.

The Association of Alternative Newsweeklies: I work as a contributing writer covering the alternative news industry.

Pittsburgh Magazine: Worked as a contributing writer at the regional publication from July 2003 to December 2005. My work included several long-form features as well as smaller news and feature blurbs.


Working knowledge of Quark XPress, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office Programs, Nikon Digital SLR, Blogging programs like Word press and Blogspot.com, basic knowledge of HTML.
